Lay It Down
by
Sandra Deden
Daddy takes Lucas to kindergarten at the same time every day, rushing and riding late's crest. Mommy takes Lucas occasionally, and makes them leave earlier. We don't want to keep Mrs. Puppo waiting, do we?
Lucas observes: "Daddy is like the beat: boom, boom, boom. It stays the same. Mommy is like the rhythm: boom, boom, boom-boom-boom. It changes."
The beat, the rhythm. Lucas jams. Where is the harmony? The High school band director was right: Close enough for jazz. |
